The CRC-32 checksum calculates a checksum based on a cyclic redundancy check as described in ISO 3309 [14]. The resulting checksum is four (4) octets in length. The CRC-32 is neither keyed nor collision-proof. The use of this checksum is not recommended. An attacker using a probabilistic chosen-plaintext attack as described in [13] might be able to generate an alternative message that satisfies the checksum. The use of collision-proof checksums is recommended for environments where such attacks represent a significant threat.
